Accused Cayo gang leaders hit with more charges
Two Guatemalans believed to be part of a gang of robbers who preyed on tourists in the Cayo District have been hit with enough charges to keep them in Hattieville until the next century. Marco Javier Chiquin-Molina and Geronimo Cortes-Gonzalez were brought before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord to be informed that not only were their original charges, filed in Belmopan and San Ignacio, to be transferred to Belize City, but new charges would also be filed: forty-six of them to be exact. The additional indictments date back as far as November twenty-eighth, 2005 and include numerous robberies and assaults at various resorts, tourist attractions and isolated jungle roads. Items taken range from expensive cameras and wads of U.S. cash to a simple cap. Both men have been remanded with no bail.
