Who does PM want for Caribbean Shores?

Dean Barrow

By now it’s no secret that Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley has his eyes set on the Caribbean Shores political division, and he wants in sooner rather than later. It’s not a stretch to say that the Mayor has gotten more done in a little over a year than any of his predecessors; and it is believed that he would be a sure thing in any constituency of his choice. But that won’t sit very well with incumbent U.D.P. Area Representative, Santiago ‘Santi’ Castillo. Today the P.M. told News Five that even though Castillo has been missing in action in his constituency, he would prefer if Bradley set his sights elsewhere.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I think that would be unfortunate. I think the Mayor is doing such magnificent work in Belize City that he could win pretty much any division in the Old Capital. I believe that minister Castillo, who admittedly has been a little bit missing in action in terms of the constituency and who has said this to me quite freely because he was concentrating on the ministry and Belmopan and that wonderful pastime of his. I believe he was in Cozumel riding. But I don’t have any doubt in my mind—he is a good minister—I have no doubt in my mind that Santi can very easily get it together and he has started, he has begun walking his constituency can, in the twinkling of an eye, get back on the good foot with constituents that may have been a little bit disgruntled. Bottom line, I am absolutely confident that Minister Santi Castillo can win and would win Caribbean Shores again. Why then would we have the mayor who can win another seat for us—thus giving us two—go against Santi. It doesn’t make sense. But this is a democratic party and the mayor has every right if that is the way he chooses to go to do precisely that.”

Castillo is serving his first term in office after he was victorious in 2012 after taking over from the U.D.P.’s Carlos Perdomo.

It’s a little bit irrelevant who the PM wants for Caribbean Shores or any constituency. It’s supposed to be up to the voters.

It’s interesting that the PM acknowledges Santi has been “missing from action,” but still supports him. That certainly doesn’t put the interests of the citizens first. Too bad Caribbean Shores effectively has no representative today.

I’d love to see a strong and honest independent candidate take a run there, instead of a do-nothing versus a megalomaniac from UDP.

If a third party could run and win just a handful of seats, it could control the balance of power in Belmopan, and force a correction in course of a failing nation.

Santi is a self made millionair and does not need to steal from Belize.
He has stolen enough with the high markups in his imports.
Anyway he has become a minister because he really cares about the country that made him filthy rich.
Bradley on the other hand is a power hungry greedy n7466er who wants to fill his bank accoount fast and easy.
He is not even a good Mayor.
I will never vote for him.

Your statements are very contradictory ‘eye in the sky’, don’t really make sense.

Santi was a thief in his business, but now not in politics?
