Prohibition on liquids eased for air travellers

Story PictureBelizeans and visitors travelling to the United States will be relieved to know that the Transportation Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has eased its restrictions on what may be carried onboard aircraft bound for the U.S.A. The total ban on liquids, aerosols and gels, which came into effect on August tenth, was in response to a foiled terrorist plot of August ninth in the United Kingdom. According to Gilberto Torres, operations officer for aviation security, the new rules apply to all flights going to U.S. airports and displayed a sample of what may now be carried aboard.

Gilberto Torres, Operations Officer, Aviation Security
?The T.S.A. issued a revised amendment to the security directive, which means there are more flexibility now for passengers to take in liquids, gels and aerosols. However, it is in the interest of the airlines to ensure that passengers can now take the liquids, the gels and aerosols pass the security screening points once the material is contained in a plastic bag, a transparent bag which should be of one quart or one litre size and the items should be three ounces or less.?

?But in general, a general summary of the revision is that certain liquids, gels and aerosols are now permitted through the security check points. The requirement of the passenger to put his name on the medical prescription of the medicine he or she is taking on board is no longer required. Passengers will now need to declare certain items once they go through the security checkpoints, which means that they may be subject to a secondary
screening to ensure that nothing is taken onboard that exceeds the required three ounces or less.?

And duty free items? All purchases are permitted if delivered directly into the aircraft. Of course if you are still not sure exactly what is required passengers are advised to ask their airline when checking in.
