Painter raises funds to help with funeral arrangements
The tragedy that has fallen on the Chen and Teul families has sprung hope from the public. Offers to assist with financial costs for the funeral of the children are emerging from the public. Funerals are costly and a member of the public, who shares the nation’s collective pain, decided to place her passion for the arts as her act of kindness. News Five spoke to Gayla, the painter, who says that she went online and raised one thousand five hundred and twenty five dollars to assist with the funeral costs.

“I just recently did some new paintings. And I had one in particular that was really outstanding to me and that is related somehow to this particular case. I decided that I was going to put it up initially for auction. But to do an auction, I was advised that you needed to do it legally and so because of the time frame, I couldn’t get that done. I was told to do it like an offer for sale. So I put it on Facebook because it is very public. We had a lot of responses and good responses too. And a lot of people shared it on their pages. So it was really public and I got a lot of hits on it. It went for, the highest offer was the person who was going to win. And at five yesterday, we had a person with the highest bid, Miss Nadine Castillo. I got a commitment from those who were making offers; that they were committed to giving their offer as well. So in total we received one thousand five hundred and twenty-five dollars and that is going to be donated to the sister of the woman who was charged and who is the aunt of the surviving child as well.”

“So all of that will be handed over when? Tomorrow?”

“I’m collecting right now. I haven’t received any monies in my hand as yet, but I’ve made contact with everybody who committed to their offer. So because tomorrow is Friday, I would say by early next week, I’m going to have that whole collection and I will make it very public depositing it and using Facebook as my medium. So that everybody can see that you can do something good for society and really look up to your word.”
Excellent Ms. Gayla
I applaud your kind gesture.
May God bless you and your family
That’s a striking painting. And an artist with a very good heart.
Where can the rest of us contribute to the good cause?
