Belizean murder suspect will be returned from L.A.
It’s usually Belizeans being put on an airplane at the P.G.I.A. to face justice for their alleged crimes in the U.S.A. But on Tuesday a murder suspect who fled to Los Angeles will be returned to the waiting arms of the Belize Police. He is Ronell Gonzalez, allegedly involved in the brutal slaying of twenty year old David Pook on August twenty-eighth. Although Gonzalez fled Belize just after the killing, the local authorities along with their counterparts in California were able to track him down and since last month Gonzalez has been in police custody in L.A. Authorities believe that Gonzalez was the mastermind behind the murder, an act that is said to be the result of a grievance over a woman who is reportedly no longer living in the country. Pook’s decomposed body was found lying in bushes by the Bingo King Apartments on Faber’s Road. It had a stab wound to the neck and there were signs that the victim was tortured before he was killed. Pook’s family has told police that prior to his death he had received several threats including one message that stated that on Friday he would be killed. When Gonzalez lands in Belize he will join his alleged accomplices, Clarence Grant and Edward Henry, who are already behind bars on remand at Hattieville Prison. Meanwhile police continue to look for another suspect known to them only as “Howard”.
