Murder pits nephew against uncle

Three people lost their lives over the weekend: two by road accidents and one following a fight in the Cayo District. That killing, in which the victim and his accused murderer are members of the same family, has left at least one man doubly troubled.

As fifty-nine year old Arjelio Garcia gets ready to bury his older brother he is also struggling with the fact that it was his own son twenty-nine year old Kenneth Garcia who brutally killed sixty-three year old Serjio Amilcar Garcia. Garcia says he was not home at the time of the incident, but he was told by his wife that his son came home drunk and it was not long before an argument started between his brother and nephew whom he says do not have a good relationship.

According to Garcia he does not know why his brother did not like his nephew, but he knows that his son has a drinking problem and he had warned him about his behaviour whenever he was under the influence, but that his son never listened to him.

On Sunday Garcia says he saw his son at the police station and asked him why he killed his brother?

Now you have put yourself in big problems, now you have to go to the back to the jail. My son told me well it already happened and he has to go to Hattieville Prison. My son acted as if he was sorry for what he did. But I cannot support my son and because he killed my brother he is no longer welcomed in my house.?

According to family friend Luciano Santos, who works at Five Sisters Lodge, he knew Garcia as a good and hardworking farmer who also did some work at the resort and will surely be missed.

On Tuesday, sixty-three year old Sergio Amilcar Garcia will be laid to rest in his community of Bullet Tree Falls.

Twenty-nine year old Kenneth Garcia has been charged with Murder.
