Couple survives robbery in Belmopan
Thirty-nine year old Miriam Janet Navarette, a Guatemalan businesswoman of Maya Mopan, reported to Belmopan police that her store was robbed by a team of three armed bandits on Monday night. Shortly after seven o’clock, the trio entered Shalon Grocery on Bethel Street where they proceeded to relieve her of three hundred dollars from the cash register, along with an assortment of cell phones, laptop and jewelry. According to Navarette, one of the men, dressed in dark clothing, wearing masks and gloves, grabbed her by the neck as she attempted to close the door. He placed what appeared to be a nine millimeter handgun to her head and forced Navarette, along with her twelve year old daughter, into their nearby residence before assaulting a forty-two year old man who was inside the home. They later fled the scene after firing two shots. Police investigation continues.
A frightening crime, I’m glad that no victim was killed.
But I will be glad if the robbers die. If not, may they be caught, convicted, and sentenced to spend their lives locked up.
