Anglicans open first pre-school
The Anglican Diocese has opened its first preschool. Located on the grounds of St. Mary’s Primary, there are twenty children attending the early learning facility, which was officially inaugurated this evening.
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
?You talk to teachers all over the country ? there is a significant difference between who have had an opportunity to attend a preschool and students who have not had that opportunity. It is reflected at the primary level, where those students have a head start on the other students and at every other level of the educational system. So it is very important for us as a nation to understand the importance of early childhood education.?
Said Musa, Prime Minister of Belize
?My wish this afternoon is that the bells of St. Mary?s will ring out loud for the benefit of these our children, who will benefit from the education and from the upliftment that they will get here at this preschool. The great man, the great leader once said: ?the little you do for them ? you do for me.?
Parents pay a low monthly fee of ten dollars for their children to attend the preschool and just three dollars a week for a nutritious daily meal. To date, there are four thousand five hundred children enrolled in preschools across the country and a total of thirty new early learning centres.
