Panama president leads list of dignitaries

Leading that list of distinguished visitors is Panamanian President Martin Torrijos. In a special ceremony Torrijos will accept the Order of Belize for his late father, Omar Torrijos. The former Panamanian leader was one of the first Latin American leaders to break ranks with Guatemala and support Belize’s efforts to attain independence. At the same event the younger Torrijos will confer on former Prime Minister George Price Panama’s highest honour. Other dignitaries on hand for Independence Celebrations are Cuba’s Minister of Government Ricardo Cabrisas, Former Foreign Minister of Taiwan Tan Sun Chen, CARICOM Secretary General Edwin Carrington and O.A.S. Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin.
