Court fixes a mechanic and his marijuana

Twenty-three year old Victor Seaman, a mechanic of McKay Boulevard in Belize City, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer on Thursday evening, where he was arraigned on two drug-related charges stemming from a GSU raid on his home. On Wednesday, GSU personnel visited Seaman’s residence, where a search led to the discovery of separate quantities of marijuana. The initial amount found inside a refrigerator totaled one hundred and seventeen point three grams of marijuana. A second sum of five hundred and seventy-three grams was later found beneath a kitchen sink inside the home. While Seaman was at home at the time of the bust, police are presently seeking a second suspect who remains at large. In court, Seaman pleaded not guilty to the charges of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another person or persons for drug trafficking. He was granted bail in the sum of eight thousand dollars, plus two sureties of four thousand dollars each which he was able to meet at the close of business today.

Keep the hammer down?!? Ha! The GSU are doing their job alright, taking a pound and a half of marijuana from a working mechanic who may have been doing this on the side for extra money. He broke the law yes, and he will be going through the judicial system yes, but will these raids eventually stop all this illegal weed activity?? NO! This is merely a dent on trying to stop a war on marijuana that will never be won. It’s funny how all we see in the news are marijuana busts, and just on occasion we see a cocaine bust. Cocaine which has killed millions of people around the world. how much has weed killed?? ZERO! This war on marijuana has to stop, because it will never be won. Put one of these guys in jail and another is right there to pick up where he left off. What the government needs to do is mobilize on the plan they had on decriminalizing marijuana. Stop wasting tax payer’s money on housing people in jail caught with a stick or a baggie of weed. that money could be going into education, or drug rehabilitation programs. Stop placing the power and money in the hands of the drug lords and black market GOB, and take that power and money by regulating the weed and collecting the much needed revenues. People smoke weed and will always smoke weed, especially in Belize having a Caribbean culture. Just like people will always smoke tobacco and drink alcohol. And there are numerous studies that show how marijuana has much fewer negative effects than alcohol. Let’s stop this stigmatization of weed smokers, many of which are just passive working people trying to make a living. Why give someone the privilege of taking a beer or having a cigarette when stressed, and not extend that same privilege to marijuana, which hasn’t caused any deaths, or serious health risk problems. It just doesn’t make sense. GOB needs to stop taking the lead from the U.S. just to be in their good books. I mean if the war on drugs is failing horribly in the U.S., the world’s most powerful and best-resourced nation, what makes anyone think that our undermanned police forces are going to do any better.
