16 year old killed in Friday night traffic accident
The second fatal accident occurred between miles twenty-four and twenty-five in Biscayne Village. The body of sixteen year old Dillon Davis was seen lying on the left side of the highway with multiple head and body injuries. Davis was riding his bicycle on the highway when he was knocked down by a Chevrolet pickup driven at the time by seventeen year old Joshua Bueckert of Blue Creek Village, Orange Walk District. Bueckert reported that Davis was hit when he made a sudden left turn to cross the road. Davis was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Lavinia Davis, Sister of Accident Victim
“He was a very loving person; loved children. He was outgoing; no like stay home. He’s always out—if not always, most of the time. He was there whenever you needed him.”
Jose Sanchez
“I know it is very hard, but what happened that night? He was at home in Biscayne.”
“We live in Gardenia. My mother said that he was home most of the day because they said that’s the original mother’s day. I was at work. I was going home on the bus and almost at home, I got a call from my sister saying that he was dead. Can’t explain to you how I really felt about that time. That’s the worst news anybody could ever receive; had ever happened to anybody. They called us saying he was dead and he is on the road in Biscayne. When I got home, I told my mom what had happened and my father and we went to view the body on the road. They said he was knocked down on his bicycle. When we got there, he was on the side of the road and he was dead.”
Jose Sanchez
“Were there other witnesses other than the driver?”
“I am not quite sure, but around the area has about three bars and usually every Friday night people are around. So they are saying that people were out there, but I’m not sure if anybody had actually witnessed what happened.”
Jose Sanchez
“I believe they are saying that he was turning on his bicycle on the road and the driver claims they were going in the same direction and he turned.”
Lavinia Davis
“That part I can’t really say much about. He was hit from the back. If you see his bicycle, it was just the back wheel that was actually broken up and twisted up; nothing was wrong with the front part of it. There were damages to the front part of the pickup that he was hit with—mostly to the driver’s side rather than on the passenger’s side.”
Bueckert has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
Whatever happened, it’s another sad loss of a young Belizean. RIP, and condolences to the family.
another guy who rides and swerves like he owns the street-hope this sends a message to cyclists that when there is an accident-the car will survive-be careful how you use your privilege when riding bikes like you so bad and cars cant knock your dumb @$$ down
