Reneau returns with 25th anniversary musical gift

Story PictureHe’s one of Belize’s most illustrious musicians and to help celebrate the country’s twenty-fifth birthday, Francis Reneau is treating Belizeans young and old to his latest original production, “We Are Belize”, which he says, is as diverse as the country it represents.

Francis Reneau, Composer, We Are Belize
?It has to two parts. The first part is an orchestral work which involves the Pallotti Music ensemble and lots of brass and flutes and marimbas, garifuna drums and the steel pan. That?s the sort of very colourful setting. I call that Belizean Fantasy. And that?s only part, it?s twelve minutes. The rest of the programme involves a lot of singing and various types of music. There?s a lot of Belizean stuff in it. There is also a barber shop quartet singing two songs I wrote based on nostalgic events of the past, some may remember and some won?t but everyone will enjoy. One is called ?Noh Ansa Back?. Back in the day if you ansa back you got a slap in the face. And the other one is called ?Castor Oil?. I don?t know if you know but that?s when you get purging. It?s horrible medicine. But I put them under the heading ?Oh, How I Love Mother?. I remember her well, sort of tongue in cheek. I want to expose Belizean talent at its best, to show excellence, to show progress, and by doing that also to give people heart. And to also say to them, ?Look! This is what can be achieved by hard work and trying to realize a dream.?

The show starts at seven-thirty Sunday night and runs through Tuesday. Tickets are available at the Bliss Box Office at twenty dollars reserved and ten general admission. You are encouraged to purchase your tickets early as they are selling out quickly.
