PACT challenge 2007 focuses on sea skills

Story PictureIn 2005, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust introduced the PACT Challenge with a memorable trek through the majestic jungles and caves of the Chiquibul. For the next edition in 2007, PACT is looking out to sea with a competitive tour of Belize’s three atolls. According to communications officer Arreini Palacio Morgan, the new format will highlight the importance of our marine environment.

Arreini Palacio Morgan, Comm. Officer
?PACT Challenge 2007 will be a marine challenge and a competition of sorts with three teams with five persons in each team, so we are trying to promote that and so that we can get passengers and challengers to come on. There will be scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, it?s a lot of fun. There will be patrolling. They will be doing a lot of sea activities. They?ll be doing research so it?s a learning experience as well as an enjoyment and entertainment for them. It will be from June third to June sixth so it?s four days. They will travel from Glover?s Reef, Lighthouse Reef, Turneffe Reef and then there will be a sailboat competition from Turneffe to Belize City. And it ends on PACT?s anniversary which is June sixth. As we?ll be having three teams and five persons per team, one person on the team must be a scuba diver and must have eighteen logged dives at least. We also need you to have some type of snorkelling experience. You must be a strong swimmer. Some kayaking experience, some navigational experience, if you have first aid training that would be an asset as well.?

For additional information on the criteria for challengers or if you are interested in joining a team, contact Arreini Palacio Morgan at phone number 822-3637. Deadline for receipt of applications is November fifteenth, 2006.
