Charlie Lewis wins Tour de Santino
Good evening. I?m James Adderley and we?ve got this week?s stash of Sports Monday rolling live into your living rooms. Even the tenth of September celebrations couldn?t hold back week five of the R.F.G. Insurance Co. so we accompanied Acros of Belize City as it headed west to face Belmopan Bandits inside the Isidoro Stadium, Saturday night.
Will week five finally give the city team it?s much sought after first big win of this season? Well at least early Acros of the city looks ready to go.
It?s almost a perfect start for the city team when a few minutes later this centre finds Marlon Jones, who connects only to see the Bandits keeper successfully intervene.
However, the ascending of the Acros team in this ballgame takes a fatal blow in the next minute, when Marlon Jones fouls the keeper on this press and picks up another yellow for mouthing off to the referee and of course gets relegated to the role of spectator by a red card.
Again it?s Acros on offence, this time from off the spotkick, and they really should have done better with this particular chance.
At the other end the Bandits creates excitement when this right floater from Deon Frazier flips off the crossbar.
As we go to intermission we must say neither team looks sharp offensively as displayed here by the Bandits.
Folks this is the first play in second half when Deon Frazier smashes this left footy that Acros keeper can?t handle and by the time Ralph Spein catches up with it, the goal already belongs to Deon Frazier, for the 1-zip lead.
Meanwhile people, Nigel Cayetano may claim he was fouled on his way to the goal, but the real call is here is he took too long to force the equalizer.
Okay we?re seventy-six minutes in when this spotkick is set perfectly on the right front of Lionel Frazier, and the 2-zip score closes out the show. Giving Belmopan the big w, while deny Acros its first win in four tries.
In other action around the league Wagiya doubled Hankook Verdes 2-1 at Dangriga, while F.C. Belize blanked Alpha of O.W. 4-zip.
Turning to the cycling scene, we picked up the final event in the four staged Tour de Santino that covered one hundred seventy-two miles in four days. And yes that solitary figure is Adrian Faux, who wins this sixty-eight mile final stage in unchallenged fashion.
Making his presence felt for second place in this run is Ellis Meighan who comes in solo flight.
And they Charlie Lewis rises out of the bunch to take third place, beating out Warren Coye and Santino Castillo in that order.
A quick click of the point sheet shows that Charlie Lewis emerged the overall winner with twenty-eight points, Adrian Faux & Santi Castillo both ended up with twenty-two points a piece, as the Santino team swept the three top spots. Warren Coye finished fourth while George Lovell rounds out the top five. We say congratulations.
In the meanwhile here?s the finish to yesterdays criterium ride around the Princess Margaret circuit, as presented by the Belize?s Cycling Association and it?s a head on clash between Ernest Meighan and Gregory Lovell. Today Gregory Lovell is boss today and he certainly enjoys it. Giovanni ?Froggy? Leslie pulls up unchallenged for third place.
Out at O.W., Arnides Rivas won Sunday?s seventy mile cycle race as presented by the O.W. City Council as a part of the tenth celebrations. Eduardo Babb finished second, while Hipolito Flores Jr. took third.
Finally folks the seventh Annual Lionman Triathlon will reign supreme this Sunday September seventeenth here in Belize City as a part of the national celebrations. Now meet the organisations Efrain ?Beeps? Philips.

?This year we have a few changes to it. We are a part of the I.T.U., which is International Triathlon Union, so we got some rules now that we will follow up. So one of the main thing we are trying to get this year is to bring the race closer to the fans. We are trying to get the fan support because we need the fans to make the race grow. So the swimming will be a total of one point five kilometre which is point nine three of a mile. This year we will do laps of the swimming so the fans will have a chance?it won?t go as far out as last year. So we will come closer so the fans can see the swimmers more than one swimming. When they come out of the water this year in the main transition area they will leave that area heading towards Freetown and Barrack Road heading pass the clock and heading into Eve Street. Then come around Daly Street and going up the new Marine Parade going towards Memorial Park behind Mirab and Company, going through the Tourist Village around the Baron Bliss grave and come back again for a total of twelve laps which is a total of four point eight mile. So the fans will have a criterium now. The riding will be in the city and when they finish the riding and going into the running transition they will be running towards the Princess Park all the way to St. Thomas Street and coming back again to the fans. Going three laps which is a total of six point one miles, so we have the running and riding in town to get the fan support.?

?The real event is teams of three. They must have one person being female, where you have one person doing each leg of the event. One person do the swim, one person do the ride and one person does the run. It is going to be the sprint distances, which is half the distance of the Olympic distance. We are hoping that corporate sponsors that participated in the previous relays will again register their teams. Sol, Belize Bank etc. all of those companies that had relay teams perhaps will be back with us for September.?
Well folks from all indication Sunday out at sunlight as prominent will be large. If you can make the scene sure to do so.
Nevertheless that?s it for now though. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah, over all I am James Adderley.
