Fifty Cents tried to kill Animal

Kareem Gillett

Belize City may lack paint, but its citizens that wind up before the courts normally have creative nicknames. Inside the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith, Fifty Cent, not the well known rapper, was charged for trying to murder Animal. Specifically, twenty-six year old Kareem “Fifty Cent” Gillett was charged for the attempted murder of thirty-three year old Peter “Animal” Castillo. At six-thirty a.m. this past Saturday, Animal was leaving the Faber’s Road home of a friend when he was approached by Fifty Cents and Patchen.  Gillett allegedly pulled out a point thirty-eight revolver and fired a single shot hitting him at the back of his head.  Castillo then ran towards Gillett in order to take away the gun from him. When he was unable to, Castillo ran towards his friend’s house and Gillett fired three more shots, two of which caught him to his right upper back and the third shot ruptured his right leg. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial hospital, where he was positively able to identify Gillett from a multitude of pictures shown to him by police officers.  Gillett, who was unrepresented, was read charges of attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. In court, no plea was taken from Gillett and due to the nature of the offenses; he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June twenty first.

    Marie, you’re right.

I’m curious, in the first report of this shooting, it was said in the headline Castillo was “not a target.” He sure sounds like the target in this version! I wonder what got into the reporter’s head the other day?

Lock him away, bring him out again after he turns to dust.
