2nd Annual National Inspiration Telethon to be held on June 1st
If you didn’t find artistry or mental stimulation by the halo, perhaps you will find inspiration in the second annual national Inspiration Telethon. Under the auspices of the Special Envoy for Women and Children, Kim Simplis Barrow and CARE-Belize, the telethon will be held at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts on June first. The event is to raise funds to complete and equip the Inspiration Center at mile one and a half on the George Price Highway. The telethon starts at eight a.m. and will end at six p.m. and will be simulcast live on Channel Five and it will feature performances from Belizean artists, special guests and the showcase will include educational videos on the center and highlights of the plight and achievements of children and adults with disabilities. Donation booths will be placed in strategic locations countrywide. In 2012, the first telethon raised over a million dollars and construction on the center is well underway. According to a release sent today, Special Envoy has the target at five hundred thousand dollars. The funds raised this year will be used primarily for the purchase of specialized equipment to provide physical and occupational therapy, medical care, recreational activities and other services catered to the needs of children with disabilities. The center will also serve as a community center with after-school classes for disadvantaged children from the surrounding communities.
