Rhaburn Ridge villager detained for attempted murder
A nineteen year old Rhaburn Ridge villager—who has been on the run since a shooting incident dating back to March—was finally detained by police on Monday. Jorge Rivera appeared today in the court of Senior Magistrate Dorothy Flowers to answer to two counts each of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault. No plea was taken and bail was denied, but Rivera, who appeared unrepresented, was informed that he may apply at the Supreme Court level. It is alleged that Rivera got into an altercation with twenty-three year old Eduardo Martinez and a few of his friends. Rivera allegedly threw rocks at Martinez and left, but returned fifteen minutes later and fired several shots at the group of friends. Martinez was hit in both legs, while thirteen year old Eter Espino suffered a single gunshot wound to the right foot. Both men were treated at the Northern Regional Hospital and later released. The case was adjourned until September fifteenth.
