Weed in lotion, weed everywhere

Egbert August Usher

A senior citizen was today fined ten thousand dollars after he pleaded guilty to drug trafficking. Sixty-four year old Egbert August Usher claimed he was using the stem of marijuana in alcohol as treatment for prostate cancer. But when he could not prove he needed it for medicinal purposes in court, Usher pleaded guilty for the trafficking of one hundred and twenty-one grams of marijuana. The taxi operator of a George Street address was arraigned this morning before Magistrate Dale Cayetano. The charge was levied following a search at Usher’s house which led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing a bag with suspected cannabis inside a “Rubee Lotion” bottle.  The search also turned up a small deodorant bottle containing more cannabis and a glass bottle with leafy like substance suspected to be cannabis. Usher was fined ten thousand dollars plus five dollars for cost of court which he was ordered to pay by November thirty-first or in default three years in prison. But Usher was not initially free to leave because of an outstanding bill of one thousand dollars owed to the court for a previous conviction. That fine was also for a drug possession conviction and late this afternoon, Usher paid five hundred dollars towards his outstanding bill and was freed.

Persecuting people for using God given herbs is a crime against humanity. It’s time for Belize to step out of the US imposed Dark Age of promoting destructive drugs like alcohol and tobacco and stop wasting public money on enforcing anachronistic laws.

You mean to tell me the ADU has nothing better to do than to be dragging a senior citizen to court for a likkle bit ah herb? They need to quit playing and acting like they don’t know where the real stash is.
Well, it must be that they have the STREETS under heavy manners now, so much so that they are free to be harassing old people with medical marijuana.
This place has become a joke.

Lawrence and Louisville, maybe you can make a case for changing the marijuana laws; that’s being done elsewhere. Maybe, with a really well-thought-out law you could even convince me and other people who oppose the recreational use of drugs.

But that’s not the law today. Existing laws need to be enforced impartially, because if they are not enforced it breeds disrespect for the legal system, and it creates opportunities for abuse and corruption.

Anyway, this old gent [he’s my age, so I can call him old] had a prior drug conviction, which means he needs to be reminded about the law.

The only way to change this law is to make it a political issue in our next election. Ganja does not hurt anyone. It is the seneless archaic law that causes grief to the whole country, destroying peopled life, spending 3 years in jail, where is this guy going to get 10K. It’s time for a serious campaign to legalize the herb. Just because its the law makes it right. The ten commandments are good enough for me, and no where in that tablet that Moses brought down after burning the herb does it sat “thou shall not smoke the herb”.

Lets bombard our reps with e-mails, phone calls and letters. I know many GSU and high officials who partake and enjoy a spliff but they don’t have the cohones to stand up and be counted. Rise up people.
