High school student says he was beaten by the cops

The family of seventeen-year-old Brian Lopez Jr., a student of Ladyville Technical High School, is livid, following claims of physical and verbal abuse at the hands of a Ladyville police officer.  The minor was on his way to school this morning when he was pulled over by police on mobile patrol in the area.  While Lopez has admitted to double-riding with a fellow student on his bicycle, what transpired between him and the arresting officer is a case of one person’s word against the other.  The teenager was escorted to the nearby substation and while en route he was allegedly roughed up by the officer.  Today, Lopez’s mother spoke with News Five about the incident.

“He mi di wah next child, dehn mi di go to school cause dehn deh pan review week and he seh ih know ih wrong what he was doing but he neva realize di police dehn mi di come behind.  And when di police dehn stop ahn dehn tell ahn fi come off so he come off di bicycle.  He mi deh pan di handle, di next child mi di ride he and he come off and then di police dehn tell ahn put di bicycle eena di vehicle.  He seh di next child put the bicycle eena di vehicle and di police take off but slow.  He put on ih headphone and then di police stop and tell ahn what did he say and he tell di police I neva seh nothing.  And di police sehe yes you said something and di police dehn come out, dehn push ahn then when dehn push ahn PC Reid punch ahn pan ih face and he tell I like this, “you realize dat my pa da wahn police too.”  He tell ahn, “I noh give a f— who da your pa.”  Ih seh, “your pa da wahn punk.”  Ih tell ahn like that then ih tell ahn yo gwein da station now. He coulda mi cuff ahn, dehn have a cuff.  Dehn noh fi di just beat people out deh like if dehn da animal.  He underage, he seventeen.  He di eena ih school uniform, you know.  That totally wrong.  I noh di seh it because da my son but dehn always get away with this, dehn always do that.”

A total of four charges, including resisting arrest and assaulting an officer have been filed against Lopez.  According to his parents, he should have been charged in their presence since he is still a minor.  While Brian Lopez Jr. is set to appear in court on Thursday, his parents say they will file a suit against the arresting officer.
