High school student says he was beaten by the cops
The family of seventeen-year-old Brian Lopez Jr., a student of Ladyville Technical High School, is livid, following claims of physical and verbal abuse at the hands of a Ladyville police officer. The minor was on his way to school this morning when he was pulled over by police on mobile patrol in the area. While Lopez has admitted to double-riding with a fellow student on his bicycle, what transpired between him and the arresting officer is a case of one person’s word against the other. The teenager was escorted to the nearby substation and while en route he was allegedly roughed up by the officer. Today, Lopez’s mother spoke with News Five about the incident.

A total of four charges, including resisting arrest and assaulting an officer have been filed against Lopez. According to his parents, he should have been charged in their presence since he is still a minor. While Brian Lopez Jr. is set to appear in court on Thursday, his parents say they will file a suit against the arresting officer.
I wish I had been there to see who is telling the truth. At least one of them is a pretty serious liar.
That said, it’s hard to see how a competent policeman would let a minor infraction like double-riding by a schoolboy escalate into such an ugly situation. At best, the officer needs some re-training — things like this can turn good citizens against the police, and that undermines the entire force.
Ok ! so they were double riding…
The officers took away the bike, if they mumbled anything the police should not have been too concerned about that, they are teenagers on their way to school!.
See, we need to know our rights; I could understand if these boys looked suspicious or in ordinary clothes and they were detained on Suspicion to commit a crime but THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO SCHOOL…. Something most Belize teenagers are not doing/going.
I hope this family gets justice, because the Police need to go harass the real criminals, learn how to process a crime scene and not let murders roam the streets of Belize, and let the kids who are trying to get an education, get one!
Lie or not… this was a simple arrest and waste of tax-payers dollars
