Lucio and Juni release Bzean. medley album
In 1991 local musicians Colville Young, Junior and Lucio Enriquez made it big together with “Belize Gone Punta”. Fifteen years later, the Santino Messengers alumni are trying to harness that magic again with another album release. According to the duo, the compilation CD is a blend of Belizean medleys that everyone can enjoy.
Lucio Enriquez, Musician
?It was his idea to come together and do the CD. Actually we had stop work for a while. He was doing work here at Pallotti in the classic and I was in the commercial field with Santino?s messengers. I came here to teach music about three years ago and we started collaborating again and that?s how this to be.?
Colville Young, Jr., Musician
?I would like to add something to that and it is that in my opinion what use to carry all the September celebrations use to be the musicians. The local musicians carried everything, and I do believe that we need to get back some of that little field back. Because that was like the hobble for most of our artistic performances, not only in music but even in poetry, in dance and in everything. The big month use to be September, and I do believe the musicians most lead the charge to bring back life back into the whole September celebrations.?
?In fact you may notice on it that most of it is not necessarily originals, but we are really trying to appeal to the folk nature of the Belizean?I can say the dance culture especially the September dance culture.?
Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
?Those who have already seen the CD what has the response been like??
Lucio Enriquez
?It was nice. They laughed at the cover. It is a caricature done by Rasshead. We find that we just want some reaction when they get the CD.?
Colville Young, Jr.
?We have always been artists. And in being artist we just really want to express ourselves. In other words have people enjoy what we do produce. Like most artist go, we are mirroring what most people feel and the emotions within our own society. We do believe that the celebrations in September have taken on more of a foreign appeal, a foreign feel to it all. So we are just trying to bring back some of that local feel. I mean dah nobody like your own local to stimulate you.?
