Man pleads guilty to strangling his mother-in-law
Forty-four year old Peter King Contreras was escorted to the court of Justice Adolph Lucas this morning for trial for the murder of his mother-in-law. At the start of the trial, however, Contreras pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter of fifty year old Argentina Garcia. Garcia was found strangled to death inside an Isuzu vehicle at the intersection of the Philip Goldson International Airport and the highway on December thirteenth 2010. When the incident happened, Contreras expressed remorse saying he did wrong and this morning, he pleaded guilty to killing Garcia due to provocation. Prosecutor in the case was Kaysha Grant and Contreras was represented by attorney, Ernest L. Staine. Grant, before reading out the facts of the case, asked relatives of the victim to be present and they were informed that the D.P.P.’s office was accepting the plea of guilty of manslaughter. According to police, on December thirteenth, 2010, at about ninety-thirty in the morning, Garcia went to see her daughter Leslie, at a restaurant which was owned by Contreras, who is Leslie’s common-law husband. Contreras later offered Garcia a ride in his vehicle and it was during that drive that she was killed. In a caution statement, Contreras said he used a rope to choke Garcia to death after she has called him a loser. Garcia’s body was found in the trunk of his vehicle by police at about three on the morning of December fourteenth. Contreras initially told the police he had knocked down a woman, but later said it was his mother-in-law. Justice Adolph Lucas has deferred sentencing for June eighteenth.
