P.M.: D.P.P./Police relations remedy imminent

On Monday Prime Minister Said Musa organized a sit down in Belmopan to discuss the disturbing matter of relations between the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Police Department. This morning, Musa told us that a settlement is imminent.

?I know you had a meeting with the D.P.P. and the Attorney General regarding this situation with the D.P.P. office and the police, can you tell us what has been arrived at??

?What has been arrived at is that nothing is yet resolved. But what I can assure your listeners and viewers is that we are working towards an early solution of this matter because it?s an unacceptable situation.?

?And all parties were at that meeting, the D.P.P., the police??

?No, just the D.P.P., the Attorney General, the Solicitor General and myself. Not the Commissioner of Police.?

?And there will be another meeting later on??

?Within the next two weeks, ten days to two weeks we are hoping that this matter will be fully resolved by then.?

Earlier this month, D.P.P. Kirk Anderson ordered his staff to disregard hundreds of police files awaiting charge recommendations from his office. Apparently the D.P.P. felt that the advice to investigators was being altered in too many cases.
