NAVCO breaks ground for new headquarters
The National Association of Village Councils got a major boost to its resources today following official ground breaking ceremonies in Belmopan. According to a government press release, this morning Minister Mark Espat and NAVCO President Eleanor Sandlin, participated in the traditional shovelling ritual on the site of what will be the organization’s new headquarters to be located at the National Agriculture and Show Grounds. The building will be constructed through a hundred and ninety thousand dollar financing package by the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Belize through the Social Investment Fund. The United Nation’s Development Programme took the opportunity of today’s ceremony to present NAVCO with seven computers and one laptop valued at some twenty thousand dollars. U.N.D.P. says the donation is part of a hundred and twenty thousand dollar institutional strengthening project that will focus on improving governance in the village councils. NAVCO is currently operating from another building at the National Agriculture and Show Grounds in Belmopan.
