Paul Trapp tops “Impossible” Mountain Bike race
Good evening. I?m James Adderley and we?re certainly glad you?ve been able to join us for this issue of Sports Monday. The Impossible is Nothing Mountain Bike Race, which raged for sixty-five miles on the Southern and Western Highway yesterday stole centre stage in the Jewel over the weekend.
We are at Hummingbird Hershey where thirty-nine of the best mountain bike riders are suited up this Sunday morning in a bid for this particular race as presented by team Impossible is Nothing.
Tyrel Ferguson takes the first station prize at Armenia by edging his Impossible is Nothing team mate George Henry.
By the race reaches mile forty-eight it?s a four man lead featuring Sabaldo Cowo, Tyrell Ferguson, and Paul Trapp. All team mates along with Dennis Molina now riding for Santino?s.
Of course the chase pack remains within striking distance, and are trying to make the big move. Around mile forty-five it?s a nine man lead featuring, David Pollard, Sabaldo Cowo, Dennis Molina, Tyrell Ferguson, Leon Hernandez, Edmund Camal, Antonio Rivers and Robert Lopez.
If you?re asking about Paul Trapp well he has stepped out of this pack to a solo lead grabbing all station prizes involved.
Folks we?re outside Hattieville and Paul Trapp remains a solitary figure, and here he is entering the Marion Jones alone.
Paul Trapp wins the sixty-five mile race convincingly in 3 hours 30 minutes and 10 seconds. He might have broken a record for riding alone for forty-one miles, that?s big people.
Inside the stadium Sabaldo Cowo is able to extricate himself from the chase pack to grab second place in uncontested fashion.
George Henry, also of team Impossible, then makes his move to secure third place. Kenroy Smoke Gladden is able to smoke Dennis Molina for fourth place, as Impossible is Nothing sweeps the top four spots.
People we have to take time out to give fifty year old Santino Castillo his due credits for his sixth place finish, Tyrell Ferguson takes seventh, Abraham Castillo eighth, Marcus Flowers ninth, while Glenn Do-Bad Smith rounds out the top ten.
Paul Trapp, Winner
?When I went for the station prize I just made them feel me and I just maintained it right there.?
James Adderley
?You picked up all the station prizes since. How do you feel for an accomplishment like that??
Paul Trapp
?Well I knew I could do it. I feel good. So I just work out with my team.?
James Adderley
?You were in the break coming into the national stadium, so tell us what happened right about then. Obviously you all came together but you were able to break away.?
Sabaldo Cowo, Second Place Winner
?Well you know we have the majority, so somebody needed to launch an attack and I just did an attack.?
James Adderley
?Tell me Sabaldo you happy with your performance today??
Sabaldo Cowo
?Yeah I am because we got one, two, three and four.?
In football news scene, week three of the R.F.G. Insurance Cup Tournament saw F.C. Belize derby as F.C. Belize and Acros Lakes clashed inside the M.C.C. Ground with both teams looking for a first season win.
So who will steal the show? Well Cristobal Gilharry looks for Jeromy James as F.C. Belize gets rolling, but there is a timely intervention by Derrol Roaches, the goalkeeper for Acros.
F.C. gets busy again when Gilmore Palacio tries the quick right foot which sails over the crossbar.
Acros tries to cook something up off this spotkick from Jarret Davis, but the ball inches over the sticks.
Thirty-five minutes into the ballgame Deon McCauley gets this look at goal only to react a little too late. At the half we have a scoreless ballgame.
Folks we?re sixty-three minutes into the action when Deon McCauley stouts his prime time stuff which ends in a cruel right foot half that gives F.C. a 1-zip lead.
This corner kick then provides Across Lake with a glimpse at goal, but it doesn?t pan out.
At the other end Deon McCauley sets table for Dennis Myvette, who squanders the golden opportunity.
Now people, Marcos Souto has this clear run at goal. Evan Neal?s defensive play takes him down inside the eighteen. The referee rules penalty against the Acros team.
Deon McCauley steps up the conversion is excellent. He gets his second goal of the match. More importantly F.C. Belize picks up its first season win with the 2-zip w.
In other action around the league Wagiya blanked Bandits 2-zip, while Hankook Verdes doubled Alpha 2-1.
Looking ahead to this weekend schedule Belmopan Bandits travel to Hankook Verdes, Wagiya plays host to F.C. Belize and Alpha of Orange Walk comes to M.C.C. to face Acros Lake. There are all Sunday games.
Turning to the National Guiness 8 Ball Pool Tournament, the six district champions congregated inside the City Centre over the weekend for the big dance, but at crunch time only the two teams from the North had survived into money time.
Strangely enough G.I. Unit of Corozal were undefeated in the early goings. But going into the finals they dropped two matches back to back to Tijuana Bar of Orange Walk, who captured this years title and we say congratulations to Evan Magana, Mark Reyes, Manuel Ramos, Valdemar Novelo, Renan BriceƱo, Javier Witz and Archie Perrera.
Finally the opening match between Brilliant of Crooked tree and Excellence of Double Head in the three game series for this year?s National Cricket competition was advertised for Saturday but it did not come off. A serious dispute over the venue for game one and a serious disagreement inside the cricket community forced has forced this particular postponement.
Percival Flowers, Excellence
?Excellence doesn?t really want to play the game due to the head association; the president of the association is pushing around Excellence. Excellence is the champion and we think that we should play the first game at Crooked Tree, but they want us to play the game at home. So the team decide that they don?t want to play the game at first they want to go to Crooked Tree. The president informed us on Monday that we will play this game at Crooked Tree and after that it look like the Crooked Tree people went and spoke to him and I don?t know what they told the man. Then he changed the game to Double Head and Excellence was not ready for this game. They took too long to give us the game to play home. We ready for the game anytime. But we Excellence feels they are pushing us around. As the champion we should have the say, but it looks like Crooked Tree, the second place team, has the say.?
Elston Wade, President, B.N.C.A.
?This is the decision of the association. Four of us decided that the match will be played in Double Head Cabbage, the first game. The second game will be played in Crooked Tree and the reason why is because we want to give the causeway enough time to drain the water, so that smaller vehicles and more fan can go to the second game.?
James Adderley
?So we have had a misstep, so where do we go from here??
Elston Wade
?Well the law of cricket is clear on it. If you refuse to play the game you lose the game. So it means then that Excellence has lost the first game by default by refusing to play and that?s the clear law of cricket.?
Ian Broaster, Excellence
?Crooked Tree gets the two pints. And if they get the two pints today automatically they win everything because we no going to play back there next week. So if it?s like that they should burst the champagne from today.?
Elston Wade
?I am not here representing myself I am here representing an entire association. We are affiliated to with an international body which we are expected to make decisions in accordance with the laws of cricket. And M.C.C. makes the laws of cricket and we are expected to do that. If we do other than that then we will be in the hot seat in truth. I am saying that we are here with a clear conscience and we are doing what is right for the sport of cricket.?
I guess we will just have for to wait for Saturday and see if this year?s season will reach its natural conclusion. The way things look at the moment it looks a bit dubious, but we do hope that saner minds will prevail.
That?s it for now though. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah! Overall I am James Adderley.
