The September celebrations are months away but the National Celebrations Commission held its 2013 competition for the theme. And earlier this week, the commission announced that this year’s theme is: “Belize In You, Belize In Me, Land Of The Free.” This theme will now anchor the celebrations for the two hundred and fifteenth anniversary of the Battle of Saint George’s Caye and the thirty-second anniversary of Belize’s Independence. The theme was submitted by Jeanelle Mencias of Belmopan. Mencias won over the other one hundred and twenty-four submissions that were sent from across the country.  The commission believes it engenders a spirit of personal pride and nationalism about being Belize and Belizean. The theme represents synergies with other themes and slogan.  The commission encourages and invites all Belizeans – citizens, organizations, schools and businesses –to incorporate the theme and its significance into their preparations and celebrations for the National Celebrations this year. Mencias won a thousand dollars cash prize.
