Western Hway accident kills one, injuries doctor

Story PictureA traffic accident on Belize’s deadliest highway has claimed yet another life and left a well-known doctor in critical condition. According to police, around two-thirty this afternoon Dr. Miguel Rosado and three others were travelling in his Toyota 4Runner from Belmopan towards Belize City. But between miles eleven and twelve on the Western Highway, eyewitnesses say a gas tanker going in the opposite direction clipped the rear of the S.U.V., causing it to run off the road and flip over several times. Back seat passenger, thirty-one year old Michelle Leslie, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was thrown from the truck and died on the spot. Dr. Rosado received serious head and body injuries while two other passengers in the 4Runner, twenty-four year old Leon Leslie and forty-one year old Marlon Kuylen received only minor wounds. All three survivors were taken to Universal Health Services for medical treatment. Rosado was rushed into surgery and tonight is listed in critical condition. Reports to News Five suggest that the gas tanker continued on its destination without stopping to offer aid. The foursome was returning to Belize City from a football meeting in Belmopan. Leslie was a former employee of the Football Federation of Belize. Rosado works as a paediatrician and kidney specialist at Universal Health Services.
