Police shoot accused thief in Sarteneja
In other news from the north, a woman is tonight recovering from a gunshot wound after she was shot by police for trying to escape their custody. That’s the word out of Sarteneja as investigators report that on Friday they detained thirty-nine year old Anne Marie Jones for questioning in connection with a number of burglaries in the village. But on the way to the station, Jones broke free and tried to run away. Arresting officers say they told her to stop and even fired a warning shot but the woman kept going. That’s when one cop pulled out his service revolver and shot Jones in her ankle. She was taken to the Orange Walk hospital where she remains admitted to ward. As soon as she is well enough to appear before a magistrate, Jones will be charged with a string of thefts. Residents of Sarteneja tell News Five Jones has a habit of walking away with clothes off the line, washing detergent, tools … basically, anything of value that she can get her hands on. We understand Jones has been diagnosed as having a drug problem.
