11-year sentence after wounding a cop

Ernest Billary

A Belize City barber has been sentenced to eleven years behind bars for wounding a Police officer and for having an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession. The conviction is in relation to a robbery which occurred at Senor Coconuts Restaurant in Belize City in July, 2011. Police caught up to one of the suspects in that robbery who was later identified as twenty-one year old Ernest Billary. During his apprehension Billary also hit PC Freddy Heredia in his head and when he was subdued, the cops found a nine millimeter Smith and Wesson pistol and eleven live rounds of ammunition on him. Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith told Billary that she did not believe his account of events and found him guilty. For the wounding he was sentenced to one year in prison, and added to that were five years for the illegal firearm and five for illegal ammunition.  The sentences will run concurrently, so Billary will only serve five years behind bars. The trial for the robbery of senor coconuts Restaurant will be done separately and is scheduled to start on June thirtieth.

I don’t like the term ‘concurrently’. It should be removed from Belize’s law.
