Human trafficking seminar focuses on helping victims
Belize may not have much of a problem with human trafficking but, according to officials, that does not mean we should fail to prepare. That is why for two days social workers, police officers, immigration officers and psychiatric nurse practitioners are meeting to strengthen their capacity to provide a better level of protection and assistance to victims of human trafficking and other vulnerable persons. A total of twenty participants are attending the workshop.

?Indeed the study that was done by the international organization on migration, the organization who is facilitating this training for us did identify the fact that trafficking or human trafficking in Belize is not a significant problem. However, because of our open borders, we are vulnerable to that happening in Belize. Therefore this training session is preparing us in the event that we would identify persons who are potential victims of trafficking. Because it deals also with psycho social attention it does not mean that you could not apply the same tool and knowledge to other areas in which person are abused or exploited.?
The meeting takes place in accordance with the resolutions of the twenty-sixth ordinary meeting of the Central American Commission of Migration Directorates held earlier this year in Panama City.
