Cop accused in theft of motorcycle

A Belize City Police officer stands accused of being a criminal. Thirty-five year old P.C. Osborne Arzu was today brought before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez, where he was charged with the crime of Handling Stolen Goods. On July second of this year, Walter Westby reported to the Criminal Investigations Branch that his 1985 Honda motorcycle had been stolen from his yard on Zericote Street. The initial police investigation turned up nothing but on August fifteenth, Westby informed the cops that he had spotted his motorbike on Ordonez Street. When police questioned the owner of the residence, mechanic Julian Hernandez, he told them that Arzu had given him the motorcycle to fix and keep for him. Police then arrested Arzu who declined to answer any questions. The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of two thousand five hundred dollars, which he met. The case was adjourned until October fifth.
