Traffic officer charged in two year old road death

In justice that was slow in coming, fifty-six year old Belize City traffic officer, Glenn Rivero, appeared this afternoon before Magistrate Roberto Ordonez and has been charged with Causing Death by Careless Conduct for a traffic mishap that occurred about almost two years ago. On Thursday, August nineteenth, 2004, Rivero was driving an Isuzu Trooper on the Northern Highway between miles four and five, when he collided into eighteen year old pedestrian Dwayne Francis, killing him. Rivero was granted bail of two thousand five hundred dollars in addition to a surety of equal value, which he met. It is unclear why the traffic warden was not arraigned sooner or on the full trio of charges usually read to similar suspects including such crimes as manslaughter by negligence and driving without due care and attention.
