D.F.C. hearings begin on Tuesday

Viewers are reminded that tomorrow the Commission of Inquiry into the Development of Finance Corporation begins its public hearings. For the first time Belizeans will be able to watch the hearings, held at the Belize Institute of Management, live on television. They will air every Tuesday and Thursday from nine thirty to noon and one thirty to three thirty on Channels Five and Seven, as well as Love FM and Krem Radio. According to Commission members David Price, Herbert Lord and Merlene Bailey-Martinez, the Inquiry will be wider ranging than that of the recent Senate investigation of Social Security and will likely call several members of Cabinet to testify as well as former D.F.C. Chairman Glenn Godfrey and General Manager Troy Gabb. Over the last eight years the D.F.C. has been bankrupted by bad loans, large and small, that were allegedly granted on the basis of politics instead of sound business practices.
