Collision on the George Price Highway

On Orange Walk resident is in critical condition at the Universal Healthcare Partners after a road traffic accident on the George Price Highway this afternoon. Eyewitnesses say that a man identified as Orange Walk businessman David Medina Jr. was driving his red Ford Ranger pickup in the direction of Belize City when he swerved into the land of a Nissan Patrol driven by auctioneer Kevin Castillo heading in the direction of Belmopan. Medina was allegedly flung out of his vehicle by the impact while Castillo was trapped behind the wheel of his and had to be wrestled out by Fire Department personnel using the jaws-of-life. Veterinary Doctor, Amy Roches, was the first on the scene as her vehicle was overtaken by Castillo just seconds before disaster struck. She saw when the oncoming vehicle swerved across the road and told us what happened next.

“After I saw the red pickup coming, it swerved straight into Mister Castillo’s lane and it just took him off of his lane completely. And as I jump out of my vehicle to see what happened, the driver from the red pickup as lying practically adjacent to his own vehicle. And his wife, she told me she was the wife because she began screaming. So I began trying to console her and asking her who is this man on the ground. And she said that is my husband. And I told her but what happened? Why weren’t you in the pickup with him? She said no, we were following him because he told me that he was drunk, he was drinking, and that they were trying to stop him from going fast on the highway; not to get into accident with anybody. At the same time, even before I went up to her, I went straight up to Mister Castillo’s vehicle and he was right on top of his steering wheel. And I began talking to him, “Sir are you okay? Are you okay?” But I saw that he was unconscious. Mr. Castillo’s face was stuck in his steering wheel until the fire men came and broke, cut, the vehicle in order for Mister Castillo to be released. I was also in the vehicle with Mister Castillo and there were intervals where he would be conscious and he would stop being conscious. He would keep on asking me, “What happened? What happened?” And that one of his foot was getting numb and if I could please release him from there. But after a good while, the firemen came, took him out and then they transported him to the hospital.”

“In terms of the condition of the fellow who was on the ground?”

Voice of: Amy Roches

“Sir he was totally unconscious; flat down on the ground with both hands to the side; gasping for air. His breathing to me from a far view—since I’m a vet doctor—I can say that the vision inspection that I made, he was gasping for air every three seconds; but a very deep, deep gasp. He was lying in his own pool of blood. He was bleeding profusely.”

Dr. Roches told News Five that Medina’s clothes were almost torn off by the impact when he was flung from his vehicle and he suffered a large gash to the head as well as facial injuries. Reports are that Medina is at this moment undergoing surgery at Universal Healthcare Partners. Castillo allegedly suffered only a broken ankle and is receiving treatment at the Belize Medical Associates in Belize City.

  1. Naz says:

The Guy in the red truck was probably drunk for real…We were traveling in the direction of Belmopan heading home to Placencia when we saw him coming, we were just behind a small car and we saw the red truck run off the road then swerved back onto the road into our lane just in front of the car that was in front of us, he just barely manage to miss that car and swerved back into his lane…thank goodness because it would have been him on-top of them and we behind…

This guy needs to be charged seriously for putting other peoples life in danger.
