B.C.C.I. welcomes regional counterparts for sit-down
This week, the Belize Chamber of Commerce welcomed its regional partners for a round of talks. And while the meetings are routine, News Five’s Alyssa Noble discovered that our businessmen are using the opportunity to find out what’s happening beyond our borders.

?FECAMCO meets every two months, you know, within different countries, so today really is only another location for FECAMCO to have their meeting. I must say that a lot of the issues on the agenda have to do with the other Central American countries. Yes Belize is a part of Central America but as you know we are a little different. But of course the importance of having this and being a member of FECAMCO is pretty important to Belize. You never know when you will need all your Central American counterparts.?

For the past two days, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry has hosted representatives of the Federation of Chambers of Central America.
According to Immediate Past President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arturo Vasquez, Belize stands to benefit considerably from the gathering.

?First of all, being a part of the Federation you are always aware of what?s happening in the other countries whether it affects you directly or not, at least you know what?s happening because you are there. Every two months you are with the discussion umm that?s one benefit we have. The other one is of course the opportunities if they ever arise is with countries first, well we have commercial relations with Guatemala, Salvador; you know commercial linkages with them. But the possibilities of developing it with other countries are there.?
For our Central American counterparts, such meetings are crucial to keeping the lines of communication open.

?Translated from spanish: ?Today we have two principal items that we are discussing. The Federation of Chambers of Commerce will celebrate its forty-fifth anniversary this year. For us, this is a very special event, celebrating forty-five years of togetherness. We are preparing a gala in November that will be held in Guatemala City, where we will be celebrating with all the Chambers along with the Ministries of Economy of the respective areas, and with businesses we plan to honour. In the same way in which the chambers of commerce are now uniting, and seeking a single block, with a common Market like we?ve seen with other countries, we are seeing that the Central American governments are working in this same line. We are meeting this week, for example, with the Central American Parliamentary Commission that has to do with telecommunications and also land transportation. Then we are strengthening our globalization efforts to find similarities among governmental processes, our laws and facilitating the private sector.?
