Another cab driver found dead

Tonight, an Orange Walk family’s worst fear has been confirmed, following the gruesome discovery of a body in the outskirts of Carmelita Village.  Forty-two year old Hugo Moreno, a taxi driver, was last heard from shortly before two a.m. on Sunday when he contacted his fifteen year old daughter who was attending the annual Fiestarama.  It is reported that Moreno, upon leaving their Sittee River Street residence, made several attempts earlier that night to get in touch with his children before they left the fair.  His wife, forty-one year old Magda Moreno, told police that she spoke with him shortly after midnight.  Moreno was last seen wearing a sky blue shirt, blue jeans pants and a pair of white tennis shoes.  When he failed to return home the family grew concerned but had to wait the requisite forty-eight hours before filing a missing person report.  That report subsequently made it to the daily police blotter this morning.  But, by three-thirty this afternoon Magda Moreno had received word that the charred remains of a body was found inside the trunk of a badly burnt vehicle along a feeder road about a mile and a half away from the village.  Upon further inspection, it was confirmed that the vehicle, bearing license plates OW-D-00257, despite being singed beyond recognition, belonged to the cab driver.  The remains of Hugo Moreno have been transported to the Northern Regional Hospital.  Meanwhile, police investigation into his disappearance has since become a murder case.

  1. HOPE says:

I dont want to stereotype this story but does it remind anyone of drug dealings ? I mean, he tried to get in contact with his children befoe they left the fair. Possibly to say goodbye for the last time? It is troubling and I do hope the family is doing well despite the horrific way the family man died. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. No one should have to live through this type of thing.
