Volunteers are appreciated at K.H.M.H.
Earlier this month, Alberto Vellos, the regional representative of the Commonwealth Youth Programme, was looking for a few good men and women willing to give of their time for its summer volunteering programme, entitled Volunteers ‘R Us. And from the looks of things, it seems that he’s found them.
Kendra Vernon, Volunteer, Volunteers R? Us
?I have gotten involved because I saw Mr. Vellos on Channel Five, so I thought instead of staying home not doing anything, that I could come and help where I can. I?m here now at the hospital, helping with little ends that the nurse needs help with, you know, helping the patient become more comfortable in bed, helping to change sheets and just other stuff that the nurse needs help with. I would just like to say that I think that they should come out and help because although you are not getting paid or anything for it, you are getting a lot of experience and you can learn other stuff while not in school.?
Gary Ayuso, Public Relations Officer, K.H.M.H.
?It?s a two fold thing. The hospital has always been a community oriented institution and we help with these programs that are benefit to both ourselves and the community. The kids come in or the students come in, in ways that are in thing that we need help with. Right now summer is on, so we don?t get the school students that volunteer during the course of the year, so we welcome the help.?
There are a total of nine volunteers at the K.H.M.H. The first round of Volunteers ‘R Us ends next week Friday. If you are interested in signing up for future sessions, please contact Alberto Vellos at phone number 605-1371.
