Body found in Belize River needs identification
Police say all they have to go on are tattoos to identify a body found floating face down in the Belize River. The discovery was made in an area near Young’s Bank not far from Belmopan.
Authorities say when the corpse was retrieved from the waters around nine on Monday night it was badly decomposed and police believe it had been there for five days. However, it is hoped that two distinguishing marks will lead them to an identification of the person they are only describing as a Hispanic male.
The body, which is five feet, five inches in height, was clad only in a green brief. But it displayed two distinctive tattoos, one that says “thug life” across the abdomen and a second that reads “Blood 20’s” on the right wrist. There were no visible signs of violence on the body and a post mortem is scheduled for Wednesday to try to determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile police are appealing to anyone who may have information that might help them in their investigation to call the nearest police station or visit the Belmopan morgue.
