Teacher drowns while tubing in Cockscomb
A teacher from Independence primary school is dead tonight, an apparent drowning victim. Police report that around nine thirty this morning, thirty-six year old Edelmira Morey, accompanied by nine other adults and eleven students on a summer camp, was tubing in the South Stann Creek in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary when she became entangled in debris in the rain swollen river. The force of the water caused her to become separated from her inner tube and she went under. Despite the rescue efforts of her companions, she never resurfaced alive. Her body has since been transported to the Southern Regional Hospital for a post mortem.
