Former F.F.B. president will have to pay income tax fines for the next five years

The case of former Belize Football Federation President, Bertie Chimilio, for unpaid income taxes amounting to thirty-three thousand dollars continued today in the court of Magistrate Leslie Hamilton. Testifying was main witness, Ann Castillo, who shed light on the discussions and subsequent assessment that the department undertook to determine Chimilio’s income.  At the end of her testimony, the court learnt that Chimilio was assessed for earning five thousand dollars a month adding up to an annual income of sixty thousand dollars.  There were no records of pay checks and Chimillo claimed that he was making three thousand dollars a month, but the Income Tax Department upped that amount to five thousand dollars.  Castillo told the court that while going through their records they noted that Chimilio had not filed income tax for some years and he was initially requested to do so for the years 2010-2011. As a result, Chimilio, she said, visited the department in June 2012, but he presented no records of his income which she tried to obtain without success. The department then undertook its own assessment and the court ruled that Chimilio must pay the sum of five hundred dollars monthly effective September fifth, 2013 until he has paid the thirty-three thousand dollars owed to the Income Tax department. This means that for the next five and a half years, Chimilio will be making the monthly payment.
