5 yr. sentence for Lorna Wade abuser stands
The Court of Appeal has declined to increase the sentence of a man convicted of beating his girlfriend senseless. In June of 2004 Elston Young repeatedly punched Lorna Wade with his fists and then whopped her in the head with a stick, sending her to the hospital with serious head injuries. In January of this year he pleaded guilty to “use of deadly means of harm” and was sentenced to five years in prison by Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh. The Director of Public Prosecutions appealed the sentence as too lenient … but today the Appeals Court said that no matter how much Wade had suffered, without specific medical evidence it could not second guess the Supreme Court. Young’s sentence of five years remains unchanged.
