Succotz man charged w/ kidnap, rape of 16 yr. old

An accused kidnapper and rapist is tonight in custody following a disturbing report from the Cayo district. According to a sixteen year old girl, on Sunday she was walking in Benque Viejo when a black taxi drove up alongside her. The driver was someone she knew but the girl says without warning, he jumped out and forced her into the vehicle. The victim then alleges that she was driven to a remote area and raped. As a result of their investigations, Benque Viejo Police have arrested and charged thirty year old Enrique Cocom of San Jose Succotz with rape and forcible abduction. Cocom was arraigned in San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court this afternoon and was remanded to Hattieville Prison. He is rescheduled to reappear on the nineteenth of July.

In more news from the Cayo court, this afternoon another accused rapist, twenty-four year old Albert Caratella appeared before Magistrate Hettimae Stuart and pled not guilty to the sexual offence. According to the twenty-eight year old victim, she was in her bed when Caratella jumped through a window of her house, forcibly removed her underwear and had sex with her without her consent. Caratella was denied bail and remanded to Hattieville Prison until the twentieth of July.
