KTV champ is the pride of Sittee River

Story PictureIt had already been delayed a day due to rain and last night’s KTV final still had to move indoors when the rains came down twenty minutes into the show. But when things settled down it was maximum drama as a new champ was crowned for 2006. News Five’s Alyssa Noble has the story.

Patrick McPherson, KTV Champion
?Walking down the streets, people I don?t even know them and they say, ?Your going to win, your going to win!? and I?m like ?What?!? ?How you know that?? So I went there and I said ?Damn, I have a lot of support, I have to go there and do my best.?

Alyssa Noble, Reporting
And that?s exactly what twenty-year old, Patrick McPherson did. With a stellar performance, McPherson left the stage as KTV?s 2006 Champion and is still so much in shock; he almost has to pinch himself.

Patrick McPherson
?I?m excited but, I still have that feeling, you sure I did it. I won! It?s just so unbelievable. From the night I went home, I sat down and said ?Damn, it?s so quick, like I didn?t even went to the Bliss.? It just feels so unreal.?

But the competition was very real, and according to McPherson, it came in the shape, form and fashion of Contestant number one, Ronald Casimiro.

Patrick McPherson
?I found Ronald to be very hard hitting to me. I was looking at him very, very closely. From the moment he stepped up as runner up, I said ?Well I got it!? I just stood there trying to say, ?How will I deal with this when they call my name?? just that.?

For repertoire, McPherson relied on some ?Oldies but goodies?.

Patrick McPherson
?The first song that was Otis Redding?s one, my dad came up with that idea to do that one, so I just do it for him. The second one I must say, I enjoyed the twist from the previous show in that bonus round. I enjoyed that twist so I said, ?I will try to find something right in that line?, and so that?s why I did that, Pony Time. The Pony Time was actually a new song to me, so at first I said ?Will I get this?? ?Will I be hyped up for this song?? Because you know when you listen to a song over and over, it won?t be hard for you to really sing it, but that song was very new to me.?

And speaking of new, McPherson walked away with some serious swag, including a brand new bedroom set and a Motorola Razr Cell phone among other winnings.

Patrick McPherson
?From the beginning, the bed is for my mom and the rest, I?ll just try to enjoy them, just enjoy them to the best.?

As for any words of advice…

Patrick McPherson
?Be who you are, just express yourself in your way and not someone else?s way.?

Reporting for News Five, I am Alyssa Noble.

McPherson joins the ranks of the four previous KTV champions: Angelo Fabro, Louis Maskall, Rhojani Perriott Tombs and Rina Villanueva. For those who missed it, the show will air again on Sunday afternoon at four.
