Mother charged in baby abandonment
Police investigation and community support was what led police to the home of the young mother who left her newborn on the doorsteps of another resident’s home in Roaring Creek Village. Today authorities say their investigation has led them to arrest twenty year old Loydia Martinez. Martinez, who is a student, was charged for the crime of abandonment.
Early Monday morning, Sherilee Williams, an anchorwoman for Belmopan TV discovered the baby girl inside a box on her verandah. The newborn still had her umbilical cord attached. The baby was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital where the little girl is said to be doing fine.
