Driver charged with manslaughter by negligence
More than a year after a fatal traffic accident on the Northern Highway, today police charged the driver involved with manslaughter. In February, Family Court coordinator, fifty-two year old Myrna Willoughby knocked down seventy-two year old Catalina Vera near the Divine Mercy Church at mile two and a half. Following their investigations, authorities have arrested Willoughby and charged her with manslaughter by negligence. She was offered bail in the amount of five thousand dollars or two sureties of two thousand five hundred dollars each which she met. The matter has been adjourned until August sixteenth. At the time of the incident, the Vera family did not hold Willoughby responsible in the death of their loved one but had expressed concern that the area was poorly lit and in need of speed bumps. As a result, two speed bumps were erected but there is still a need for better lighting in the area.
