5 persons injured in near fatal accident on Boom/Hattieville Road
There was a near tragedy on the Boom/Hattieville road just after eight on Sunday night. It involved four separate vehicles and resulted in five persons being seriously injured. It didn’t make it onto the Police sitrep, but what we confirmed tonight is worthy of a Final Destination horror flick. First, a vehicle flipped on a dark stretch of the road near the garbage dump. Then two vehicles bearing good Samaritans stopped by to render aid. Just seconds after that another vehicle came barreling around a curve. That red SUV hit a man who was attempting to slow down traffic…then it slammed into one of the parked vehicles before hitting another man, another vehicle, then three persons who were standing on the side. By all accounts the scene was a gruesome one, though all persons involved have been treated and released from the K.H.M.H. Today, News Five spoke to Michael Waight, a Boom resident and one of the Good Samaritans, who was hit by the out of control SUV.
Michael Waight, Injured in Accident
“We were coming in on the garbage dump curve on the Hattieville Road. When we came up to the second curve, there was a bunch of people on the side waving and we stopped. And we saw that they had flipped over into the ditch and we were rendering help to them. There was me and my brother, Drew, and we were outside and his kids came out and I turned around and told them to put them back in the van. My brother was in front and my vehicle was in the back. And the same time I told him that, he put them back and I turned around to call for assistance with the nurse in Boom to come and help the people that flipped over. And all I heard was the screeching of tires and after that I just blanked out. I don’t know where…when I got up, I was in the bushes. My phone was gone. I came up shouting for my son and my girlfriend and at the time, they were in the truck. I passed out….I opened the back of my pickup and lie down, I passed out because I was in so much pain and I had a gush on my head. They had to stitch my ears because piece of that got cut off. I don’t remember the impact at all. I got it from my brother this morning that the person came and hit drew head on; he flew up and then he came and hit my brother’s van; hit me, hit three of the people that were in the vehicle that were turned over and then hit my truck and kept going until it stopped.”
As we told you, the accident did not make it onto the Police sitrep, and they are not releasing the names at this time. The man who was driving the red SUV was detained last night and served with a notice of intended prosecution while Police work to determine if he was at fault.
Devils at play…
Michael a speedy recovery, you guys always try to help it’s in your nature to do so
