Chamber of Commerce calls on House members to exercise respect at house meetings
The House of Representatives meets this Friday in Belmopan. As we understand, a number of bills will come back for second and third readings and passage, including the Trusts (Amendment) Bill, the International Financial Services Commission (Amendment) Bill, and the Financial Intelligence Unit (Amendment) Bill. This morning, the Belize Chamber of Commerce issued a release in anticipation of Friday’s sitting. The BCCI says it is concerned about the continued and unchecked practice by house members of displaying behaviour that is disrespectful and unbecoming. The BCCI calls on the representatives to conduct themselves with the decorum and maturity implicit in the title of the honourable house. The BCCI also calls on the Speaker of the House to maintain order in the House so that the real business of the day can indeed be carried out in exemplary fashion and to ensure that the lewd behaviour displayed at the last House meeting is never again repeated. Of note is that Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington, who is away at the United Nations, is returning to Belize on Thursday specifically to attend the house meeting. He will be flying back to New York immediately thereafter.
A what so important mek dis old fart waste tax payers dollars fi fly up an down to di states? A gues govt need the numbers to vote to push tru dem ting.
The PEOPLE OF BELIZE second the motion to Chamber of Commerce request for the House members to exercise respect at THIS AND SUBSEQUENT house meetings, but go further TO REQUEST THAT THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE ACT AS THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE and not like A ADDITIONAL UDP MINISTER.
