O.W. man decapitated in N. Hwy. crash
A gruesome traffic accident which took place Friday night around mile twenty-five on the Northern Highway has left one man dead and another hospitalised. According to police, thirty-one year old Delphin Perez of St. Matthew’s Village was heading towards Orange Walk from Belize City when his G.M.C. truck carrying a load of logs sustained two tire blowouts. Perez subsequently pulled over partially on the shoulder of the highway to make repairs. He lit a fire when night fell to caution traffic of his position. However, one unfortunate vehicle didn’t get the message and around seven-thirty p.m. a Ford Ranger double cab pickup belonging to Bowen and Bowen Limited collided into the rear of the parked logging truck. The collision caused the logs to rip through the pick-up, decapitating twenty-two year old Gregorio Tillett and seriously injuring thirty-six year old Elitorio Canul. Canul was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he remains in stable condition. The driver, twenty-nine year old Servio Tillett, miraculously escaped unharmed. Both Tillett brothers were employees at Bowen and Bowen Limited and were on their way home to Trinidad Village in the Orange Walk district. Police say that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the account given by Perez as that same night another Bowen and Bowen company vehicle, heading for Gallon Jug, suffered minor damage as it grazed the same logging truck. No one was injured in that incident.
