Minister of Immigration admits to corruption in department

The Police are not looking at Penner. What then will they investigate? Perhaps, they will investigate the persistent reports that there is a parallel passport scheme which bypasses the protocol and procedures at the Ministry of Immigration. At the press conference on Thursday, Minister of Immigration Godwin Hulse admitted openly that he knows that there is utter corruption within the department. But he stopped short at admitting to a parallel operation.

“I don’t know if I’ll entertain that, but I’ve heard all those statements. What I will say is what the prime minister has also said. We know that there’s been utter corruption in the department which we’ve been trying to deal with. So if it emerges that there was a parallel structure of some sort indeed to be honest with you, I was told by my good friend, Adele Ramos, earlier today that there is a website where somebody is offering to sell passports for nine thousand dollars and all sorts of thing and that is still heftily running afoot. So I hope that the ones they are selling are fake because I am pretty certain right now that the way it is operating in the department, that it could not be coming hopefully out of the department.”

But I am saying specifically, is that a fair that you reasonably entertain that when you think of the worst case scenario, do you think that there may be this operation happening in the background without the knowledge of the good authorities at the department.”

“Jules it could be, but I am hoping and this is how I have to say, I am hoping that everybody—every single right-thinking Belizean, who would know or if they know that there is anybody of any other nationality who has obtained a Belizean passport fraudulently or through any system would be dignified enough, honest enough, nationalistic enough to come forward and give us that information so we could deal with it.”

We would expect Hulse to be a right-thinking Belizean, dignified enough, honest enough, nationalistic enough to come forward and give us that information. You Sir more than anyone else as the overseer, know more than anyone else who all have gotten fraudulent pasport because you are working in the Immigration office where these things are being prepared under your watch. If you as the overseer say you don’t know, then you should RESIGN IMMEDIATELY.
We thought Hulse was a man of principle, but we can’t entertain that belief anymore. Of the thousands of people who give these fake address, like Picini area, Las Flores area and you know these people never ever came to Belize, and could never be friends of Penner, but they are still given nationality and passport under your watch. Hulse I dare you to tell the Belizean public, where we can find, in all of Belize, one person who know more about this than you, Candelaria and Marin.

I guess if they came to you, you would want a percentage of the visa & passport sales. They are just looking out for their own, just like you. But when you catch these rats not giving you your corruption cut, damn them, put them in prison as examples for cheating a minister out of graft.
This pretty sad for any Minister of ANY government to admit this on public record. pathetic, a new low by any standard. But it is Belize, and the people are OK with it.

Let me break down what is happening in Belize to you. Can you imagine Hillary Clinton or any member of the US’ immigration department putting American passports, visas, and citizenship on sale to the highest bidder. This passport and immigration scandal is a bad thing for every civilize country in the world. Terrorists traveling on a Belizean passport are less likely to be suspect. Criminals traveling on a Belize passport maybe less likely to be clocked as possible criminals.
I believe that this scandal has changed that now, every person traveling on a Belize passport will be scrutinized and double checked. Your politicians have just made you all suspects, when traveling you will have to prove yourself innocent.
I believe that Mr Hulse should resign immediately. He has disgraced himself knowing that crime has take place at the immigration and now he wants to investigate. the right minded person will get the police immediately. What a corrupt individual he is. Resign Mr. Hulse Now!!
Hulse, if you guard your reputation the way you openly said you do, on television for the nation to see, you should have run out of the Office of immigration over which you preside! It’s been overrun by corruption under your watch, and you never tried to stop it, or bring it into the open. The Nationality scandal, the Visa Scandal, the work permit scandal, the passport scandal and you said nothing, nada, zilch! What are we suppose to assume, that you still a tiny bit of integrity left, when you openly try to cover up the whole shebang by playing with words for all to see. One more time, for you to try to come clean, ” Is Mr. Penner being investigated by the police department, and if not why not?”
The Prime Minister heard about visa hustling, passport scandal, and all he hanky panky going on at Immigration. Faber said he even ask Hulse for a report on what have been happening, none delivered to date. The unusual thing about this situation, is that the Hulse who preside over the ministry, knows nothing about the open hustling taking place in his department because there are senior people involve, but the PM who is in a totally different building hears about it. Hmmmmmmm…..inquiring minds need to know! This cannot be the same Hulse of 7 years ago.
Hulse knows the buck stops with him. If something went wrong he should have stopped it. Even if the instructions came from the PM. Where is your gumtion Señor Hulse? Do the right thing and remove yourself. Or was all your talk just singing for your supper? Shame on you! Distance yourself!
