Security guard charged with theft

A former security guard has been arraigned for stealing while on the job. Thirty-five year old Michael Woods appeared today before Magistrate Harrison Hulett, where he was charged with two counts of theft and one count of burglary. The charges arose out of an incident on April first in which Woods, employed by Blackhawk Security, was hired to work the night shift at Bowen & Bowen on King Street. Sometime between seven and eight p.m. another guard on the compound noticed that Woods was no longer at his post and efforts to find him proved unsuccessful. The problem was that also missing was his employer’s nine millimetre Sig Sauer pistol–a gun worth four thousand dollars–as well as a hand held radio. A beach cruiser bicycle, belonging to the other guard, was also gone. Woods was not found until June thirteenth, when he was detained for a burglary on Banak Street. Today Woods pled not guilty to both the theft and burglary charges, telling the court that the gun and bike were stolen from him, not by him. That argument fell on deaf ears, however, and he was remanded to prison until July seventeenth. It seems that the security specialist had previous convictions for burglary, handling stolen goods, wounding, carnal knowledge and escape, not to mention other unresolved charges still before the court.
