Before change of heart, U.D.P. was in full campaign in Cayo Northeast

Last Friday, the Prime Minister was asking to give Penner a second chance and over the weekend, the PM was in full blown campaign mode. He was in Cayo on tour meeting Cayo Northeast constituents making it clear that the situation is bigger than Penner, and it was all about the U.D.P. and the good works they have done. And if the people weren’t convinced by that….the PM threw in a good old campaign promise of unprecedented spending in that constituency in the next few months. He was at the Welcome Center in San Ignacio on Saturday when our friends from Love FM caught up to him.

“As we proceed over the next couple of weeks, if there were to be the need for a bye-election, we get three months in which to prepare. If there is to be some recall referendum, we get two months in which to prepare. The one thing I have to say is this. Already, you in Cayo Northeast have felt the hand of the United Democratic Party, the strong caring hand of the United Democratic Party and that is why we are here where we are today; that is why you can go about this place and see the visible sign of progress. But I am here to tell you, you ain’t seen nothing yet. And I noh want dehn bawl because over the next five months, or six months or whatever it is, they ah see spending in the Cayo Northeast division—in the whole of Cayo, but especially in the Cayo Northeast division such as they have never seen before. And I noh want dehn scream and I noh want dehn halla; I noh want dehn try say we di try buy the people of the Cayo Northeast constituency because the work had already started when there was no question of any possible bye-election. But that we wahn ramp it up; that we wah step it up; that we wah accelerate it…there is absolutely no doubt.”

Of course by this morning the prime minister had a different tune. He has asked Penner to resign.
